I first met him when he was three months old, so it’s hard to believe Winston is now an energetic three year old! Last month, I documented his birthday party for the third year in a row.

W’s parents are extremely cool and always have a fun theme or special element to add some pizzaz to the party. Whether a bucket of cake, silly string, petting zoo or temporary tattoos for each guest, you know these events are sure to be a fun time!

Here is a small sample of fun from our afternoon.

hsp_dogs_9On a beautiful winter afternoon, I met up with four precious dogs (three from one family, and a tiny one from another). The weather was perfect, the outfits were superb, and with some wrangling, these models were the ultimate posers (in a good way). After reviewing the results from our session, the pups expressions and eyes almost look human to me!

This session took place at the owners’ home, and I just love how intimate each shot feels. It’s truly a “day in the life” shoot! The owners will soon receive a photo album from their friend who hired me. I am so excited to hear about their reaction. :) (As many of you well know, surprise photo shoots are some of my very favorite things to work on!)

This weekend we had a mini family reunion in Fredericksburg, TX.

  • “Ladies Who Lunch” at The Peach Tree
  • Shopped at quaint stores and antique shops
  • Had a fabulous meal with extended family at The Rathskeller
  • Ventured out to Luckenbach, TX for an acoustic set from Cory Morrow
  • Took in the beautiful scenery – fields of goats, sunflowers and hill country wildflowers
  • Ate the most marvelous peach cobbler and peach ice cream from a stand on the side of the road
  • Purchased peaches and baked them into my very first peach pie as soon as I got home (and gave a slice to my wonderful dad for Father’s Day!)
  • Spent early Sunday afternoon at Becker Vineyards where I reminisced about this photo shoot and pet the sweet resident winery cat.

Then:

Now:

Even though the first set of pictures was only taken one year ago, Winston looks so incredibly tiny!

Let me explain something to you guys. I’ve been consistently photographing this kid since he was 3 months old! From our first shoot at Hotel San Jose, to his first birthday party (unfortunately, not blogged) to today – his 2nd – it’s astounding to look back and see how much he’s grown.

But, one thing has stayed the same: a wonderful group of friends gather together every year to celebrate this special little boy. It amazes me to see how many people love him – and each other – and remain so close!

So – onto this year’s party!

What do you get when you put a cute 2 year old + cake + a petting zoo with “widdle baby goats” + silly string together? One awesome birthday party for one cool kid!

Winston was rocking Austin chic, with a Japanese batman shirt, formal grey trousers and long, tousled locks. He even sported some pretty rad tattoos (temporary of course) and showed them off at every opportunity.

I’ve been to a few parties with petting zoos now… but nothing could prepare me for the shock that the miniature pony brought into my life. There was nothing miniature about him! Even though it caught me off guard, the kids loved riding the pony and I got some great shots of their trips around the backyard.

I can only imagine how happy and proud Ginger and Jason are of their son. Even as a spectator, it warmed my heart to see him so excited in the middle of his party. He really seemed to appreciate and enjoy every aspect: from the “widdle baby goats” (his words!) to the cookie monster cupcakes… he had a blast.

Ginger + Jason: thanks again for including me in your annual tradition and once again inviting me to capture your wonderful memories and spirits! I look forward to future par-tays!

Potamus [pot.uh.muss]: roommate Anne’s cat, food eater, marathon napper, window-dweller, fish stalker, rap star, fur-shedder, wall climber, back-sleeper (like a human), cuddle buddy.

also known as: P, Lil P, mista P, kimmen, fluff, Mr. Peepers, POTAMUS! (as in, stop scratching the couch or get off the table), PP, sweet P, and party mouse.

responds to: “what are doing?” “hey P!” “c’mere, P” – and pretty much any noise, really.

This pink-nosed, wide-eyed, curious, easily spooked furball of love is an endless source of entertainment. He’s also an adorable subject to photograph. Needless to say, life in the Treehouse would be much less exciting without him.

**Update**
Due to popular demand, here are a few more Potamus pics. Warning, cuteness overload!

World, meet Laura & Michael. Mayyybe one of the cutest couples I’ve ever met – and not just because of their looks (although obviously that’s a large part of it). They’re just the type of people you want to know: kind, genuine and extremely hard-working. In celebration of L&M I must mention that they celebrated their first wedding anniversary in 2010! Congratulations, y’all.

The proud parents to two adorable dogs, they love their puppies more than you can possibly imagine.

Just before the holidays, we ventured out into the cold to take some photos of their young family: two lovebirds, two lucky puppies and a whole lotta love.
