The moment I heard the news I thought, “Oh, how perfect.”

You see, my colleague Laura and her husband Michael are going to be the best parents. These two exude happiness and joy! They’re expecting their first child and this baby is already so loved!

I had the best time with L&M in downtown Austin as the sun was setting on the city. We got to photograph some areas I’d eagerly scouted out, and each place helped capture part of their personalities and relationship.

So looking forward to meeting Michael Jr. this summer. Until then, we will all have fun anticipating his arrival.

Happy Birthday, Robbie!

I’m pleased to announce my best friend (Christine) and her husband (Ryan) are the proud new parents of a little boy! Robbie came into the world today – a perfect 7 lbs, 10 oz! Happy birthday, baby Robbie! Congratulations, Christine & Ryan.

Robbie and his parents live far away. That said, I want to chronicle October 8th from the AUSTIN, TEXAS perspective. Just a few tidbits for me to remember this day vividly.

Robbie:

On your birthday eve, I was making chili stew (with gluten free, hatch-chili cornbread!) and sipping wine when your mom let me know she was on the way to the hospital. At this point you were one week overdue. We were excited. Baby time!
The next morning, I woke up wondering why I hadn’t received any news overnight. Turns out you liked taking your time.
Greeted a beautiful fall day with highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. A dream come true for us Texans!
Exchanged text messages and phone calls with folks (Katie, Laura, Mom, Debra, Christine, Ryan, Matthew) awaiting the good news!
Finally got an update from your Aunt Katie in NYC — you were born! 12:47pm ET. Healthy, happy, so cute.
Checked the calendar – ACL (Austin City Limits Festival) is a mere 4 days away. Future music lover?
Called Debra (your grandma!) on the phone. She and your grandpa are over the moon that you’re finally here.
Finally heard from your mom and dad via text… they’re deliriously happy (we all are!)
Final observations: from what I can tell so far, you look a lot like your dad but have your mom’s eyes.

Kid, it’s been a few hours and you’ve already made the world a better place. That’s gotta be some kind of record. Looking forward to meeting you and squeezing your little cheeks (not too hard, promise).

Robbie gets to meet his “Aunt Katie” (that’s me!) at Christmastime. I’ll definitely take photos in December. Until then, I dedicate this song to little Robbie Scott. I love you, baby! Welcome to life!

Her Side Project: 2009

Happy New Year! As this decade comes to a close, I’d like to reminisce over the last 365 days and post my favorite photos from Her Side Project: 2009.

On a personal note, and mostly for my own benefit, here’s a list of what 2009 meant for me!

| I moved from Fort Worth, Texas to Austin, Texas | changed jobs | was a bridesmaid in two fabulous weddings | welcomed the sweetest baby boy in the world to my extended family (cousin’s first child) | made incredible new friends | established a solid photography client base in DFW | started to re-build that photography client base in Austin | went bridal gown shopping with my sweet roommate Brooke for her wedding | survived the Swine Flu – yep | eagerly anticipated and celebrated the birth of a childhood friend’s baby | attended Alison & Kenton’s awesome wedding | converted from the Blackberry to the iPhone | traveled to Arizona for Renee’s wedding, to Georgia with Sydney and to Washington DC for the first time by myself!|

Needless to say, I had a busy and exciting year, but it wouldn’t have been the same without my adventures in photography. I’ve loved meeting each new person, taking each photo, editing each image (even when grueling and into the night!) and most of all, giving my clients memories to cherish for a lifetime. There is no greater gift than when someone laughs, cries and/or has a visibly positive reaction during the results presentation. Thank you to each and every one of you who have asked me, or in some cases – let me, take your picture. Each experience has meant so much to me. I can’t say it enough… THANK YOU!

Glad to be back in Austin, Texas. Facing 2010 head-on. Confident it’s going to be the best year yet. Happy New Year!
